Flag of Italy - Bandiera d'Italia

In use since appearing for the first time 21st August 1789 as the green, white and red military war flag, it was 7th January 1797 when the first official adaptation of the tricolour as a national flag by a sovereign state (the Cispadane Republic). Like so many other flags, it is influenced by the French Tricolour with green instead of the French blue representing natural rights, social equality or freedom
