First adopted on 25th April 1918 during the first period of independance following the conclusion of the First World War, it was replaced during Soviet Unions rule during the Second World War.  The flag was readopted 18th August 1988 during the Soviet Unions collapse.  Although there is no record of who suggested the colours or their meaning, the yellow, green and red were frequently used in folk weavings and traditional dress
